MOSCOW, Jun 9 (PRIME) -- Russian rescuers have processed almost 33,000 square meters of contaminated soil on the site of a diesel fuel spill in Norilsk, a representative of emergency services told PRIME on Tuesday.
"6,000 square meters of contaminated soil were processed with sorbents and recycled, a total of 32,600 square meters," the official said.
Norilsk Nickel said it had neutralized fuel on the territories along the Daldykan River.
A fuel tank at Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company lost pressure on May 29 and leaked out fuel and lubricants into the river Ambarnaya, causing a fire.
A spokesperson for Norilsk Nickel, the world’s top nickel and PGM producer and the core enterprise in the region, blamed warming of the permafrost, which moved supports under the tank.
